Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of lecture and interactive discussion methods in improving students' understanding of Sufism material in the context of Islamic education, with a social constructivism theory approach. Using a quasi-experimental design, sixty Islamic Education students at Sunan Giri University Surabaya were divided into control (lecture) and experimental (interactive discussion) groups. Data were collected through pretest-posttest tests, questionnaires, and classroom observations. The results of statistical analysis showed that the interactive discussion method was significantly more effective than the lecture method, with increased conceptual understanding and higher active involvement. These findings confirm the potential of collaborative learning strategies in developing students' cognitive, affective, and spiritual aspects in Sufism learning. This study contributes to the discourse of effective Islamic pedagogy and recommends the integration of constructivism-based interactive discussions to optimize learning outcomes.
