School Efforts to Instill Religious and Social Character in Students Through Habits at MI NU Tuban Upaya Sekolah Menanamkan Karakter Religius Dan Sosial Siswa Melalui Pembiasaan Di MI NU Tuban

Abstract
Character education is one of the primary missions of schools in shaping students with strong moral foundations. At MI NU Hidayatun Najah Tuban, character development is integrated into daily activities through a structured habituation program tailored to the institution's Islamic educational context. This study aims to explore and analyze the school's strategy in building students’ religious and social character through such habituation practices. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method, data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings reveal that the school applies five main habituation programs: singing the national anthem "Indonesia Raya," performing Dhuha and Dhuhr prayers in congregation, reading hadith before prayers, conducting daily Qur'anic recitation (tadarus) of Juz 30, and running a literacy program. These daily routines are not merely ceremonial but are systematically designed to instill core values such as religiosity, discipline, honesty, responsibility, and patriotism. The habituation program, rooted in Islamic values and national identity, proves effective in fostering character among elementary-level students. This study contributes to the discourse on contextual character education by highlighting how daily religious-cultural practices in Islamic schools can serve as practical strategies for character building. The findings are expected to be a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in implementing character education through structured and value-oriented habituation.
